The Eavesdropper An old man in his nineties sat down and started praying. I leaned in a little more to hear what he was saying. Dear God it's been awhile since You n me has spoken. Ever since You took my Angel and left my poor heart broken. I see my own end's coming soon and I ain't afraid o dyin. It's safe to say I been an ass there won't be a lotta cryin. I been selfish all my days Angel used to get so mad. I wouldn't let her say a word as I told about the day I had. She used to talk about her dreams all hopin and just wishin. I barely heard a thing she said always thinkin bout goin fishin. Good Lord in our younger days that girl was quite the looker. I been thinkin lately Lord n I know why You took her. I never paid her any mind acted like I didn't care. Until I woke to find her gone and found You took her there. So here I am God man to man I done learned to face my sorrow. I come to say I'm sorry n hope I see you tomorrow. If you see my Angel there tell her I kin barely wait to hold her. And Lord if You're still listening get this ******* off my shoulder. Then he turned and looked at me and he gave an evil grin. He said If'n you ain't got no prayer o your own feel free to jump right in. Edwin C Hofert
