The Eastern Bay
The fog rolled in on the eastern shore
Thick and heavy like a blanket of smoke
The dew clung like a second cloak
Wet and heavy that you could almost choke
Walking along the deserted beach
I glanced toward the open ocean
I heard only the pounding waves
Crashing along the head way
I swore I seen the outline of a ship
Towards the densely foggy eastern bay
I quicken my step along the beach
When I thought I heard a crack and a screech
I ran into the water to see if a boat ran aground
For surely I was not imaging this sound
As I tried to gaze through the thick fog
The only sound was the church bell ring
As I ran up the hill back into town
To see what happened why the bell did sound
They said there was an accident at sea
About twenty miles out how could that be
Till this day i still wonder
About the crack and the screech that came my way
It gives me a chill down my spine
I t makes me wonder if it was all in my mind
Twenty miles out that foggy night
The ship was hit and sank out of sight
Cut in half is what they say
Now I no longer walk the eastern bay.
