The Dove

Asleep on her bed as if having a dream, His mother passed on so peaceful and serene. Her spirit she'd share with a white dove that took flight, And then on her son's shoulder it was soon to alight. The dove then flew to a tree where leaves drifted down Settling right on top of her son's bereaved crown. When he looked at the leaves, two were normally formed, But the third one he found to be slightly deformed. It was shaped like a heart for him to keep. Choking back tears he tried not to weep. For he knew then his mother had sent the sweet dove To tell him good-bye and to send him her love. *For Deborah Guzzi's Contest Animals Speak

Everything peaceful in this poem, even death which is somehow comforting. I see it was a winner and so deserved to be! Luv, Elizabeth

This actually happened just the way I tell it in my poem. It happened to my ex-husband when his mother passed on. She and I were very close. Thank you for your comment.

connie, which poem was featured. I can't seem to find it in the featured section. Unless there are many more than four pages over there. I know I read this nice one already but dont' think I congratulated you on the win! LUv, Andrea

A sweet story and I have one similar meeting with a dove that I will try to put into a poem some day. Congratulations on your win. Love, Joyce

Great job doing a poem for Deb's contest, Connie. Birds I think are the easiest animal to represent in this contest. I used the robin. Good luck in the contest, and also, I see that you already discovered the lovely shards of light picture I told you about. LUv, Andrea
