The Door To October
The door opens... October!
Leaves begin to fall, a chill is in the air.
I close the door, but September doesn't return.
Should I go buy a pumpkin or two or three?
I see a black cat out the window, is he Mr. October?
Perhaps, I'll feed the chipmunks. What do they eat?
I reopen the door to October and head out into it's path.
I see daddy long legs and let them crawl.
I go to the lake and see turtles reaching for the sun.
October says howdy to me. I say hello back with a lit cigarette.
Why are all these birds flying through the trees?
Halloween is coming soon. Oh what a delight, I want pumpkin pie!
The sun is running lower through the sky, when will he ride high again?
I don't like witches or their magic.
I'm back home and I close the door to October. Hhhmph!
