The dolly mama —
heartbreak after heartbreak.
mama’s babies became their babies.
hers was buried in a tiny coffin, flowers in hole.
he had a name covered with dirt.
the other names, she holds as a bouquet,
petals, spilling like tears down her face.
drops muddy the ground
sprouting up other people’s kids
and a goddaughter, she loves to pieces.
identifying with the struggle of self,
she encourages and wraps her sensitive arms around
youth, not always pretty, sometimes uncouth,
but she holds hope in her heart
for those itty bitties.
her first attraction was to the stars
with their huge hair, sparkling teeth,
glamorous clothes, big personalities—
she let hers shine right out front,
being well endowed.
her crowd drew attention
but her loving nature grew and grew.
she’s a dolly through and through.
judgment belongs to God.
somehow i think Jesus
would draw her close, hug it out.
