The dog wore a rainbow bandana A feral cat hissed at it Birds bullied each other at the feeder A hawk in the shadows Rats scurried through the alleys Of both the rich and poor (garbage is garbage) Children waited for the school bus Breakfast waited for them An old woman collected “recyclable” cans (a homeless entrepreneur) I wondered “do politicians ever look out the window?

wow...your free verse was captivating and I wondered where the story would leave (love the side comments in parentheses) I, too, wonder if politicians at any level look at the window. They don't see the struggles, the incivility of their own policies. GRRR

Just seen some training on how observing incivility affects people. Being in a toxic environment can be massively impactful on the bystander as well as the individuals involved. The ripples are felt well beyond those there at the time. I suppose the best we can try for as individuals is break the chain and raise awareness of injustice and discrimination. Politicians are neither the role models to aspire towards or likely to lessen divides by their actions.
