The Dog Show

Just best in show, moments of beauty, strong, smart,
a french bull dog, a lion dog Pekingese, and then
wonderful, dog winner Buddy Holly
mankind creating something special and fun
a release from the sadness and hunger, the fatigue
just an hour or two, something easy and sweet
a rare minute, I'll take it and pet my dog, a mix
rescued and now elderly, once he stayed by me 
as I struggled with chemo 
now we have a moments of ease 
in a hard hard world.

Gary Radice October 18, 2023 at 10:24 PM We had a rescue greyhound who gave us so much joy. Reading your poem it occured to me that pets: dogs, cats etc arent just pets..they are family and often act as stabilizers for us in an unstable world. Cheers - Gary

Sam Kauffman September 25, 2023 at 1:11 PM Truly, dogs have the most compassionate heart. We have had Wheaten Terrier show dogs for many years. All but one a champion. But, that being said, their hearts were full of compassion and, in my eyes, every dog is "best in show!" Thank you for sharing this lovely and heartwarming poem.
