The Disembodied

A poet has no gender or existence only black words Seen and read by anyone in particular What is the intent? Brain synapses come alight in reinterpreting the meaning A blonde man's blue eyes say "I know what this means" but do not know the author Brain synapses come alight in inventing the meaning A black woman's brown eyes say "This is what this means" The poet's disembodied message (words by the baker's dozen) has traveled long miles The meaning of the poem no longer a private pearl becomes public like a frog Shifting like the desert sands What will it be 10,000 years hence?

We look on all the poems and poets of the past and sift over their words finding personal meaning in poems, finding a way of understanding, and wrestling with those we don't understand... and yet, no one will know exactly what the poet felt and thought while writing. Well done, John!
