The Devil's Power

THE DEVIL’S POWER The devil has such power and seems to have control; He blinds a man with pleasure and sends to doom his soul. He has such great potential to promote his evil schemes And fills men’s hearts with greed and selfish goals and dreams. There’s not an individual who’s lived here on this sod Who has power to defeat him except the Son of God. And if all of the billions alive on earth today Would try to overcome him, he’d just escape away. He’s subtle and deceitful as he spreads out all his lies, Too late they are discovered if it’s after that one dies. He spreads his false religions and leaders by the score; “There’s not one way to heaven,” they say, “there are some more.” And when the truth is spoken and conviction settles in, He says, “Just wait till later to be saved from your sin.” But though our power is futile as we try to resist, Though we could never fight him with weapons or with fists, We have a power greater on whom we can rely And know that He will help us when unto Him we cry. And some day just one angel will bind him with a chain To cast him out forever to tempt us ne’er again! Yes, just one mighty angel--perhaps God’s Son--will cast This devil into hellfire forever more at last! So we have much more power through God’s own precious Son; Through Him we fight the devil; through Him the victory’s won! Don’t think that you can do it in your imperfect state, For he deceived the woman God perfect did create. And now that his time’s shortening, he’s finding many ways To get each one to stumble or on life’s pleasures gaze. Submit to God, resist him, and he will surely flee, For only through the Savior can you have victory. Christ conquered that old devil, and some day he will bow To honor Christ as Lord then, though he won’t do it now. His doom is sealed for certain, of that you can be sure, And in the Savior’s presence you’re ever more secure. For the devil has no power that God will not allow, So give your life to Jesus, and do it here and now.
