The Devil Crown

The points on her crown were perfectly spaced Reward for winning the marathon we’d raced. Looked like devil horns intricately laced. The crown’s designer’s steps were soon back traced. He was chastised for his design, completely disgraced.

I'll bet they never asked him to do the crown ever again. That's one way to get out of a ponderous chore. If you do a poor job at something you didn't want to do in the first place, they surely won't ask you to do it again.

I think some people "plan" it this way, so they will not have to do a task again.
