The Day When I Found Christ

The Day When I Found Christ In fallen countenance, I lift mine eyes No need for vain self-righteousness disguise The greatest gift he bought without a price Who will have mercy and not sacrifice Refrain I bow in faith and lift my weary eyes My life is blessed the day when I found Christ He came to me when I was in despair I found no refuge for my soul to care The heavy burden I could no more bear Then in much sorrow my sin I declare I never knew such love so fair and true Nor even think his grace to me is due In lieu my sin, his holiness I view For He has found me and my life made new And when someday my Sovereign Lord I'll meet Beneath his throne to worship at his feet A rebel turned to victor in defeat Amazed to find my empty chaff has wheat
