The Day I Stopped Waiting
You left the things
you broke in me,
like cracks I had to hide.
And I kept walking through the pain
with all my tears inside.
You never tried
to know my heart,
just the story in your head—
a version of me made from doubt,
not the truth I softly said.
Maybe one day
you’ll turn around
and finally understand,
that you were more important
than the whispers of the crowd’s command.
I stayed silent,
not from pride,
but tired of proving my place—
tired of asking someone to see
the love right in my face.
You didn’t lose me in one day,
it wasn’t sudden or loud—
you lost me in the quiet moments
when you chose distance over us somehow.
When softness waited at your door
but silence filled the air,
and little by little my fragile heart
felt how little you were there.
I never wanted gifts or gold,
just a moment of your time—
to feel your eyes truly see me
without first breaking mine.
So I let you go
with a trembling soul,
though loving you felt right—
hoping you’d find the parts of you
that I could never reach that night.
And maybe someday you’ll return
with a heart that finally sees—
not the girl who waited in the dark,
but the woman who found her peace.
Until that day I hold this ache,
soft, quiet, and awake—
a gentle proof that love was real,
even strong enough to break.
