The Dash of Life
The Dash of Life
Between the time of birth and death,
There's a tiny dash - so small.
How we decide to live in that dash,
Is an important decision for all.
Many live to a ripe old age,
While others live briefly on earth,
How we live between the dash,
Will be showing our true worth.
Many live for possessions alone.
Work long hours to get more cash,
When what really matters in this life
Is how wisely we spend our dash.
Some spend time in helping others
Cheering the lonely and sad,
These small deeds bring satisfaction,
Giving pleasure, making hearts glad.
Let your light so shine before men,
That's the true biblical way,
That your Father may be glorified,
So show good works while you may.
Jesus tells us to store up treasures,
Though not of the earthly kind,
The good we do is stored in heaven,
While our possessions are left behind.
Teach us Lord to number our days
For they are just briefly lent.
May we apply our hearts unto wisdom,
In making our dash wisely spent
.
