The Dancer and Her Mask

There was a dancer;
She was beautiful
She wore a white dress
And a painted mask
She moved like music
In a way that made
People stop to watch
And when she tired
And began to stop
They cried out, "Dance on!"
So the dancer did
Yes, they all cried out
All but for one man
He watched quietly,
Just looked; thoughtfully
Then slowly approached;
The dancer paused now
He stepped forward, slow
She didn't move once
He raised his hands
To the dancer's face
She stood still frozen...
He removed her mask
Behind it streamed tears
The people saw this
Lost interest, moved on
But the man just watched
Just looked, thoughtfully
Then he wiped her tears
And the man held her
