A true story in poem form.
The Damned
Overtaken by a dream;
it’s the middle of the night.
I started just to pace the floor
then I sat down to write.
Out poured that old memory
I’m just not over yet.
Sometimes things happen in a life;
life won’t let you forget.
I was too young to understand;
too innocent to see.
The danger of the stranger;
and all he took from me.
I could have cried out in the night,
maybe he would find some other.
Sleeping not so far away;
what if he found my brother?
So I endured the things he did
I swore somehow I’d hide.
Everything now done to me;
what’s broken deep inside.
It seems to me. It seems to be,
I no longer have a choice.
To take this haunting memory
and give to it a voice.
To cleanse my mind, my heart, my soul
This thing I do not own.
And somehow tell somebody else;
my friend. You’re not alone.
