Notes About The Poem
Author's Notes: "The Curve of Time," is a  very special rhymed couplet that I just completed on July 22, 2017. Without going into any great detail, the original idea and my back-story for this particular couplet was based on a recent read of some studies on Albert Einstein's "Theory of Relativity," and his conceptual view that "space" is finite, while "time" in infinite. This view is integral to the concept that the space-time continuum is curved, which has given rise to the established existence of the fourth dimension. I am, by my academic background and training, certainly not a scientist, but my purpose with this particular couplet was to consider and view this very complex notion of the curve of time beyond our three-dimensional world from a pure poetic perspective. The true realization of all of this deep scientific complexity most certainly lies beyond our present circumstance right now, today, in this first quarter of the twenty-first century. Yet, I thought, after studying all of this for a while, it might be worth the effort to look at it all afresh from a poet's perspective. And so, with this explanation, here is my couplet on "The Curve of Time." Let me just say also that this write is my poetic contribution to the ever-evolving nature of the scientific method. Enjoy this unique poetic journey! (Gary Bateman - July 22, 2017) (Couplet)

The Curve of Time

The Curve of Time

This curve is the truest magic of space and time,
With one finite, the other infinite but not in kind.

Einstein’s vision gave us this new fourth dimension,
Inspiring mankind’s depth of a true infinite intention.

The infinite extension of this mystical curve of time,
Gives our poets much to ponder and to set in rhyme.

Piercing the veil of time travel exceeds finite space,
Whilst allowing man his place in this noblest grace.

Man’s primitive view of our Earth as being only flat,
Gave way now to an infinite future view to arrive at.

This infinite future view bespeaks a constancy of motion,
Descriptive of time, people, events, passion, and emotion.

Let us all dream of the enchantment of this curve of time;
For this shall give our poets the chance to set all in rhyme!

Love where you took Einstein's theory and especially that your poem is published in the 2020 PS Anthology ~ well penned, Gary.

I'm always thinking about those curves, or folds, in time, it's great to fantasize about it. So many great SF books and films are written with the concept in mind. So I love your poem about it. Great work!

Thanks Darren for your read of my poem and for your very kind words and observations!! Yes, for sure, the concept of "Time," is even more front and center in today's world than when Einstein first posited his Theory of Relativity in the early twentieth century. There is so much more of all of this yet to unfold in the future: SCI-FI meets THE REAL WORLD!! Cheers , Gary

Great poem, Gary! The scientific expressions flow so rhythmically in this beautiful river of words. An instant classic, my gifted pen friend. I would be honored if you read my poem, "Children of Eternity." It covers similar themes so well expressed in this picture perfect poem. Btw ... Kudos for POTD. Love and peace always.

Hello Freddie, Thanks very much for your very kind words here, Sir!! I will most certainly make the time right now, if fact, to read both of the poems you've mentioned. (You might be interested in another earlier poem I did that had a touch of Einstein in it: "Moments in God's Cosmic Time," that I posted on December 12, 2015.) Best Always, Gary

Thanks WW for your very kind words here. Yes, I agree for sure, with the dichotomy of "time" being both an ultimate creator and destroyer depending on the circumstances at hand and with any mendacious influences from mankind. Much to think about for sure!! Best Wishes Always, Gary

Congrats on POTD Gary, well deserved; I like your observations of space and time, which even in a game of chess are inherent as elements; space, time and force (energy). Einstein was right about time being a dimension, and they certainly exist in our beloved poetry:-)

Hello Keith, And thanks very much for your read of and gracious words on "The Curve of Time." Your thoughtful comments absolutely ring true to me in every respect. Some people have trouble relating to Einstein particularly because he's talking about his key concepts and their interaction beyond the three-dimensional prism we all live in, and I agree whole-heartedly with you that "they do certainly exist in our beloved poetry." Continued Best Wishes!! Gary

Thanks Charlie very much for your thoughtful comment here and for your gracious words. I'm still very amazed today by all that Einstein postulated in his Relativity Theory and his follow-on work. (And he did all of this far before the advent of the computer age.) It's for sure interesting to see what shall unfold in the future. I believe time travel will eventually occur as well. "Out of the Box Thinking" will be required though!! Cheers and Best, Gary
