The Cries of the Street

You turn on the news;

What do you see?

The death of yet another;

Human Being.

So many are young;

Young adults and small children;

What is really going on?

This is a state of confusion!

Our kids can’t enjoy a nice day;

Because gun shots keep ringing out;

Killing our youth;

What is that about?

People scared to leave their homes;

Scared to go to work;

Don’t know if someone;

Is lurking and ready to hurt.

School kids are dying;

Getting killed by the dozens;

Gangs are running rampant;

Killing our loved ones one after another.

Young men and women;

Are being shot and killed;

While minding their own business;

Someone tell me this isn’t real!

My 22-year-old brother lost his life;

From the hands of another;

Now my family mourns;

In this time of trouble.

How do we fight this war?

Right at our front door;

So much genocide;

Right before our eyes.

So many lost;

This is too deep;

Can you hear;

The cries of the street?
