The Cries of Adonis-W
I, Adonis, born out of an incest of father-daughter
Semitic god, a hunter and a handsome man
A god of vegetation, women’s laments “Adoniscries”
Festivals on me in spring, mourning in autumn.
Spending six months with favorite Aphrodite,
The Goddess of love, beauty and sexual pleasure
Born out of the churning and foaming of
Severed genitals thrown into the ocean
Loved by many of the gods and mortals
But luckily I am her most favored one
Spending six months with ill favored Persephone
Queen of the dead, and the underworld,
Pomegranate in hand, the goddess of harvest
Father promising her in marriage with his brother
Over-aged Goddess seduced me in under-age.
I have heard about “the Adonis Complex”
The main concern today of one’s body image
A modern problem striking men of all age
Ye, mortals! On the earth you have our replicas
Adonises, Zeuses, Aphrodites and Persephones
I’m not a god like Christ, Lord Krishna or Allah.
Lead me kindly not to undeserved godliness
Plead me not for my polygamy and incest
Forbid don’t forget, you masters of words
Bid me well with your thoughtful muse.
