The Cranes

All around I see the cranes Of buildings growing taller, Contributing to blocking out the sky, Which seems much smaller. They haul supplies, enabling The placing of the beams To disrupt the city skyline And fulfill somebody's dreams. The cranes are not at fault, although They're easier to blame. Without them our fair city Couldn't play this modern game. But since they're here, the buildings rise, Monstrosities of glass, The beauty of the views we knew Abruptly come to pass.

Most Europeans are in awe of our New York skyscrappers (gratte-ciel, in French). I find them ugly and except for a few vintage ones, boringly dull. I likened New York city to living in a forest of sequoias! There should be a moratorium on building them for a period of time at least. Can't you just hear the protests from developers? / M

Those cranes are a wonder to me. I just can't quite wrap my mind around how that long spindly thing can stand there and do what it does. :/ :) hmmm :)

Out with the old views, in with the new. As Jan wrote below, that's 'progress.' It comes with a tear. Nicely written: 'Vintage Ilene Bauer!' ~ gw
