The Confession
You stare like the sky just split in two,
I didn’t ask you to
I know, but I do!
The rains pouring harder, the tension grows thin,
When your lip starts to shiver, my pride gives in.
And just like that, our war is undone,
In the middle of thunder, we’ve finally won.
So yes, I love you…Now come here, you fool.
Let’s kiss in the rain...Let’s break every rule.
You step closer, water dripping from your hair,
your jaw clenched, your eyes fire.
Then suddenly
without warning, without plan
you explode
Yes, I love you!..Your voice cracks.
I do..I love you...So what?!
And the rain....for the first time
pauses...
My lips part,
but I don’t know what to say.
You just stare, like you wish you could take it back
but can’t.
Because it’s true.
Because it’s always been true.
And me
I stand there,
drenched and stunned,
feeling my chest rise like it finally remembered how to breathe.
A smile sneaks up, uninvited.
God...my heart is laughing.
It’s laughing in the middle of a war.
I whisper to myself,
just loud enough for the sky to hear:
Yes… I deserve this.
An angry confession.
In the rain.”

In the corner of the imagination where longing becomes so unbearable that the mind begins staging scenes to survive it. The kind of scene one imagines in silence while staring at rain. A piece, dreamlike one. Part fantasy, part wish, part prayer. The sort of scene one imagines during lonely evenings and secretly hopes fate has already written somewhere in advance. I deserve an angry Confession in the rain.
