The Company We Keep
In that inner sky
where mists unravel
we gather.
If we were to say "my heart"
that would mean nothing.
If we say, "the company I keep"
that is everything.
Those that abide
are all those
that step where we step,
look where we look, see what we see.
If we were to say 'God"
that might mean nothing,
yet
all the 'those' that we are
keep abreast of my breast,
talk with my lips
write just for the praise of
myself,
and that is God
if I were to call it that.
