The Coming of Spring

Green leaves tear through the icy crust
Reaching for a sun still low on the horizon
The smell of sweet nectar drifts on cold winds
Violet flowers showing against white snow
The first hope of the Earth’s new life
Buds, leaves and blades of grass wait their turn
Wait to open once again when the snow is gone
And the breezes of spring come again
