The Clock Winked - the Best Way To Be Alone

The clock winked at a middle-aged woman
Waiting in a singles bar for someone to take her home.
The lady thinks its hands might be the only hands
Caressing her body tonight.

The jukebox teased a Friday night cowboy,
Whiskey talk and steel guitar, a lonesome, somber tone.
The cowboy thinks this song might be the only song
That plays in his bedroom tonight.

But tick-tock, it's time to rock.
Just look around at closing time
For lost souls in drinkin’ holes
Just waiting for a pick-up line.

The clock winked at a middle-aged woman
Lying in a cowboy’s arms; the best way to be alone.
They both know this time might be the only time
They get to feel human tonight.
