The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

The Clock Still Strikes

the pendulum pulsates my demise
within corners of mind, darkness sighs
and memories cry out faint beats of life
where fury's ticking beneath strokes of hands
as they color pale flesh in amethyst tones
while crimson spills mingle with death's tears
yet i wonder, was i not worthy of more?

i am weathered and wise beyond years
yet countless hours still laugh in seconds
behind my back in faint ticks of my clock
that sits motionless upon the wall
stilled by shadows cast out through night's call
as recollection of past speaks in metered pulses

i see your hands press steel force against flesh
blushed within your fingers fold as they strike
over and over again, repetitive clicks
in quick strums that fall within night's silence
i feel my heart beat in the same quickened tones
where memories chime thoughts of yesteryear
yet i count life's moments as borrowed time
then laugh at seconds knowing i am not dead.

I detect an Edgar Alan Poe-ish tickle in these dark thoughts---laughing in the face of Fate. Well-penned!! :) gw
