The Child Still Remains

I can't ignore the shadows. I can't ignore the pain. I've lived with my denial, Much to long. I must explore my empty past. The child still remains; Crying in the darkness for the strength, To carry on. The little hand is trembling, Afraid to ask for much. The crumbs have gotten smaller, Through the years. Hoping for some kindness, Or an understanding touch. Dreaming of a future. Without tears. Don't worry now, my little one. At last I hear your voice. I feel your desperation, Hear your cries. I love you so, my little one. I've finally made the choice To find and live the truth, And dry your eyes.

Thanks so much, Sara. Our poetry is always open to interpretation. I hadn't thought of yours but it certainly does bring that to mind. Thanks for reading and your comments.....Robert.

The child inside. It needs to be nurtured ALWAYS for us to be happy as adults. Love the message and the way you portrayed it, Robert.

Thanks so much Andrea. Yes, that little one is a big part of who we are. Nurturing all of one's self is a concept that many have a hard time grasping. Life is beautiful and happiness is essential. Your comments and observations are always welcome. Friends in verse.....Robert.
