The Chameleon

The chameleon
It is that time of the year
The sweet coated tongues
Of the chameleon begins
Its melodious songs again

ii
The people are waging their tails
Dancing to the rhythm of the songs
They dance with so much enthusiasm
With even greater enthusiasm
than the chameleon who sings the songs

But the people should have known
That this song is only a repetition
Of songs we are all used to
Albeit in a different way

The songs are full of promises
Promises of sacrifice
And the followers of the chameleon
Stand prepared to sacrifice their blood
For the ambitions of the chameleon

Oh! The followers has refused
To learn from the past
They ought to have known
This chameleon better
But they go ahead
And with all zealousness
Did they give all they had

Some have spilled their blood
Just for the ambitions of the chameleon
Just for the promises of the chameleon
Alas! The song is now concluded
And the chameleon has tricked its followers
To give their very blood
For its ambition

And so was the ambition achieved
And so came the long awaited office
And the people kept counting
The losses from their sacrifice
Standing in long wait
For the expected fulfillment
Of the chameleons promises
To soothe their wounds
But they should have known
That a chameleon never keeps
It colours permanently

Now the chameleon sits as king
And it has changed its colour
To suit its new status
The colour of the people
Is no longer what it wears
And the colour of its promises
It has refused to retain
The people can no longer
Recognize the chameleon
For the one they now see is not the same
As the one they used to know

And so its dawns bitterly on the people
That the chameleon has changed its colours again
And they have once again been deceived
By the sweet coated tongue
Of the ever changing chameleon.
