The Chalice of Night
In the serene solitude of dusk,
The hands of dream weave
an elusive web of deception
and set a snare to entrap
my beloved Sleep
as she comes carrying
the nectar in a sacred chalice.
With ethereal grace
she gathers me in her warm bosom
and smothers me every night
with fervent kisses.
But each night
some foolhardy dreams yank me
out of the calming lap of sleep
and set me off on vain pursuits
through a maze of wild fantasies
leaving me haggard and beat
at the break of day.
