The Cat and the Bird
My cat looks out of the window,
At a bright summer day.
My cat looks out of the window,
But the beauty of nature is lost on her.
The trees are still in flower,
Violets and daises adorn the grass,
The air rings with talk and laughter,
And birds sing.
A sparrow is outside the window,
She stares at him through the glass.
A sparrow is outside the window,
Daring her to pounce.
He stays just out of her reach,
A tigress in a cage.
Her collar is her fetter,
She cannot get him.
The sparrow stares back at the cat,
Knowing he is safe.
The sparrow stares back at the cat,
Crouched behind the glass.
Cheekily he mocks her,
As she glares at him.
Mischievously taunts her,
Knowing he is safe.
