Notes About The Poem

The Butterfly Nebula

What yonder lies in distant sky, and looks like lovely butterfly? A cloud of gas that iodized whose blazing beauty mesmerized. Throughout the universe serene, in Scorpius she can be seen, this nebula of orange and green, the stellar pride of heaven’s preen. These particles that crystalized, with nature’s beauty harmonized; this bright celestial butterfly that yonder lies in distant sky.

Congratulations John! It is amazing when words touch the reader in this way, making it number one. On a list of best poems. Still, to me- this looks like a kiss in the sky. :) Brandy

Perhaps it could be a kiss, kissing sometimes happens in the clouds. Thank you for your thoughts, B, all my best. John

Thank you so much, Connie, I am humbled by this ranking; there are others that I think are better and have more views than mine and maybe should be ranked above me. But it's always nice to see your efforts at the top of the list. John

Thanks so much, Vijay, I'm humbled by this. I'm not sure how this ranking is done, I thought your butterfly poem was better than mine, you scored higher in the contest, and you've had many more views than mine; perhaps yours should be number one not mine. All the best my friend. John

Thanks, Mike, I appreciate it. I guess you could call me "old school" but I always pay attention meter and rhyme. I enjoy constructing a poem where all the pieces fit together perfectly. John

A beautiful poem in perfect iambic tetrameter John. I am so glad I am not the only poet who writes in strict rhyming metre and with rhyme and can yet paint a picture beautifully in words. You have done a wonderful job here.

Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, Josie. I do pay close attention to my meter, I think that is one of the things that makes a poem a joy to read if you do it right. I vary my meter from poem to poem but within a poem I work hard to keep it the same. I'm glad you enjoyed my butterfly poem. All my best. John

John, this is beautiful! I love the symmetry of this poem, with the rhymes mimicing starting in the middle and the way the first two and last two lines fold back on each other. Like the wings of a butterfly. Well done sir!

Thanks so much, Dean, I appreciate it. I like to try different things in constructing my poems so they don't all sound the same. I like trying different meters as well to make the poems fun to read. Thanks for noticing this. John

John, your prowling piece, was the shortest of entries that were placed as being part of the top ten and yours was a BEAUT, and to that end, I would like to add my personal heartfelt thanks for gracing your awesome rendering within this contest that was made possible by the PoetrySoup members, as a place to be solely recognized and honored by its community of fellow poets, Aloha always, William Kekaula
