The Broken Pieces

i turn away from you,
your words still ringing in my ears.
how could it have come to this,
after all these years?

i could apologize a thousand times,
but you will never forget the lies.
being away from you,
my heart has morphed into something new.

but i still see you thru the bars
of this cold, dark jail cell,
guarded by my mistakes
and all the secrets i'll never tell.

all my heart yearns for is to be renewed.
but in all my blessed repentance,
i'm left with all the broken pieces,
cold and rotting for a lack of you.
