The Brighest and the Beautiful
"All things bright and beautiful;
All creatures great and small;
All things wise and wonderful;
The Lord God made them all."
Mrs. Cecil Alexander
The Brightest and the Beautiful
The brightest and the beautiful -
Small bits of sunlight seen
Through storms in colors
Floating
In the sky;
In raindrops forming puddles
Flowing
Into racing streams
That meet
To make the restless tides
Or snowflakes - no two quite alike -
Gathering on high peaks -
Bits of dust
From millenniums,
Long passed
Piled high -
Create a picture lovely
For the great and the small
In a heart of tiny cells,
Born from a little seed unseen,
To jump in joy at the vision
Seen through crystal windowpanes
Birthed from grains of sand
Forged in a furnace fire
up roaring;
The wonderful, the wisest plan
Of acrorns
Forming mighty forest oaks
On steep hills -
Raised into Heaven's smile -
Of gathered fragrant leaves or berries
Blending into cups of balm
For restless cores
Where dreams and dreamers
Meet,
Warmed by mantles
Woven from thin silken threads,
Resting in serenity's open arms
Lifting up small prayers of a thousand voices
Into miracles
Fashioned by the Lord of earth and Heaven -
Like bright pennies found by serendipity
Upon the roadside
That promise blessings -
Rejoicing life -
From the Lord, our God,
Who made them all.
