The Bridge is Burning

We often try to retrofit
The remnants of a bridge that burned
In fires that we never lit
With scaffolding of lessons learned

But if we are the only one
To put in work to reattach
We may find — when work is done —
The arsonist still holds that match

That last line lights this one up. It's a match for the contest, methinks. ~ Gershon

Thank you. I wasn't sure at first where I was going to take this poem, but when I wrote that line my path was set.

Some bridges need more to mend then just one.
