Notes About The Poem

The Bridge Across To Dreams

I needn't tell you, dearest fledgling
To stay in school. I needn't remind you
That education is the bridge across
To dreams, to an auspicious future

If you quit before graduation, the bridge
Comes crumbling down, and you're stuck
At the edge of destiny, wishing you could
Fly over to the other side like an Eagle

Do you want to reach the zenith
Of your aspirations? Do you want wings
To soar around the sun with, and not fall
Out of the sky like Icarus?

If so, stay in school; lest you're left stranded
Looking over at goals once tantalizingly close
Finish your education and earn your wings
And get the keys to your kingdom
