The Breath of Love

to inhale seems a sin
I've burdened you so much through my decisions
a crime worthy of death

but my love breathes for me

my body has worn out
it, like my head
has surrendered to depression
the most narcissistic of emotional states;
but my heart won't let me die
it has stored up memories of you as food
to feed my weakened mind
it takes control of my lungs
against my will
it inhales and exhales for me
forcing me to fight

my eyes dilate
with this new rush of life
as if my love for you grants me the ability
to take in two breaths at once

an extra ounce of air

an extra ounce of life

an extra ounce of strength to keep me living

love powers me
i cannot give in
i love you far too much
i know you're out there
and i know you love me
how can i give up?
our love is keeping me going
