The Boat On the Rocks
No hero me only in my dreams
A pleasant night out
Coast walk with my lady
People mesmerised and all just looking
Watching a boat drifting onto the rocks
Somebody must be doing something
Boat striking hitting the rocks
Nobody doing anything
Spineless bastards go on! Come on!
Don’t leave it to me!
A long clamber down to the rocks
Wishing on the way down it will all go away
Why me! No not me!
Boat still there hull knocking against the rocks
A man viewed inside collapsed drunk or ill
Come on help! a fisherman looks at me blank
Engine still running keeping the boat against the rocks
A straddle over the gunnels I’m too old for all this shi*te!
Aboard and there seen collapsed a large man
With all my strength I can’t get him over the hull
Either I get him out in the next few moments or I’m off
A shout out in my loudest voice
“F*ucking come on get up or we’re both going to f*uckin die!!”
In time he responds and I push him over the side
Like a sack of potatoes falling on the rocks below
But he’s not dead and neither am I
Let me go,go now please!
Walking past the police now arrived they just stare
A climb back to the promenade
A beer in the bar there I cried
My Lady thought I just went to look like the rest
Near to death maybe a foolish risk of life
For what!
