The Blue Rose and Me

As I walked through the garden alone I pondered the flowers I saw Though their names to me were unknown Their beauty left me in awe I was amazed at all the colors there For all the world to see But one that I saw was beyond all to compare No other had called out to me A lone blue rose with petals spread wide It put all others to shame And though others may have tried Their beauty just wasn’t the same It mimicked the sky in tint And smelled sweeter than a garden in may With just a hint of mint It created quite a display It left me feeling awestruck I stopped and stared for a while I wondered absently if I’d get bad luck If I picked it, it might be worthwhile But instead I stood and admired it Till me feet ached from standing It entranced me more than I’d like to admit And left me without understanding How could a mere Blue Rose Change things deep within me How much a change, nobody knows Just the Blue Rose and Me ~6th Place in the "The Blue Rose" Contest by Mac McGovern~
