The Birth of Christ
In a carpenter’s house, in a wife’s home
In blessed Nazareth, born was the Saviour;
By Mary, a virgin, daughter of Anne
Engaged to Joseph, a man of good behaviour.
Conceived miraculously by the Holy Spirit
Poor Joseph was not at all pleased,
In a dream, God told of his mission
Suddenly his evil thoughts had seized.
A few days later, Mary went to visit Elizabeth
Who also informed Mary of her inner host;
Within Mary’s womb, the baby moved
Her cousin felt the spirit of the Holy Ghost.
Mary’s with heart and mind praised the Lord
Her face was delighted with her son Jesus
From then on, all people continued to rejoice
God kept his word as he did with Moses.
The Roman Emperor called for an immediate census
Joseph with Mary on a donkey they’ve journeyed;
The time had come for her to have the child
While the Saviour to born in a stable was guaranteed.
Three rulers from the Orient visited the stable
Entering with haste presented their offerings,
With gold, frankincense and myrrh
Glorifying the child in the stable were three kings.
They had to escape because of jealous Herod
Terrible things happened those days in Bethlehem,
Heard all over was the grieving mothers weeping
Their newborn babies were slaughtered in front of them.
There was Simeon, a god-fearing man
Who wanted Israel to be a nation;
The child proudly held in his hands.
“ With my own eyes, I see salvation!”
After the death of King Herod
The holy family left the scene
What the prophets foretold came true
The Messiah is called the Nazarene.
