The Better Man
Feeling so alone
Not sure what to do
He sat beside a stranger
An old man hair full of silver
Hesitant at first he
Stuck up a conversation
It started out as small talk
The weather, favorite teams
Than in an instant the talk took a serious turn
For the old man beside him
Saw a tear run down his cheek
He told the man of his life
All he had been through
He talked about his father
And all of the abuse
Though he loved his father so
He didn't weep when he died
Part of him feeling relieved
Finally feeling alive
Now he was all grown
A wife and family of his own
His fear is that he would turn into his father
The cycle would go on
Than the old man said words he'll never forget
They hung right there in thin air
There meaning crystal clear
He said every man gets to choose his path
Which steps he wants to take
No matter what his father did
Whether in love or in regret
Always stay true to heart
Always remember the pain
This will be the path that leads you
To be the better man
Remember to pray when times get hard
Thank God for all your blessings
For love and time spent with family
Will be your legacy for the world to see
It's up to you to decide
Who you want the world to meet
