The Best of It

I’m sneaking up on sixty years of life.
And every day I’m closer to old age.
I’ve got good kids. I’ve got a loving wife.
But I’m not ready for the next life-stage.

So many things I did back in my youth
Without any effort and with no pain.
Now, mornings I must face the cold, hard truth:
Added years mean my body’s not the same!

Yet, my self-image is still of a teen,
Strong and ready for almost anything.
The mirror shows I am no longer lean…
The realization makes my pride sting.

I guess, although I’m feeling desperate,
I’ve no choice but to make the best of it…
