The Beginning of Winter
It's cold outside but no snow yet.
The sky is overcast and gray.
We don our coats and scarfs and mitts,
And await the snow that stays.
We huddle 'round the T.V. set,
\We drink hot tea with lime.
We go down for our flu shot,
And hope it works this time.
Children dream of snowmen,
Sledding and getting new skates.
Parents get the home prepared,
For Winter no favorites makes.
Even in the forest,
The animals prepare for Winter.
They store up food, prepare their nests,
To make survival simpler.
There is no room for grass hoppers now.
We all have become little ants,
Scurrying in preparation,
For when Jack Frost does his dance.
