The Rolling Stones were the bad boys
   Amped-up volume, lyrics semi-obscene
Jimi Hendrix -- hypnotic, Frank Zappa -- psychotic
   The Monkees? ~ Even their fingernails were clean

The Monkees were squeaky clean all right. But from time to time they could rock as well as anyone. Well, probably not as well as The Stones, Hendrix, or Zappa.

You're right. They had a couple of pretty good songs, as I recall. Yet they were by and large a media creation... :) gw

Oh I love The Rolling Stones, and I was glad to meet Mick Jagger in Montauk, NY some years ago...

At first I didn’t know who he was I was saying hello to until I was told he was the famous Jagger. After then he became one of my fave singer... Lol!
