The Beast Is Loose

There's a beast I let loose today.
Now its on the loose and running my way.
I didn't mean to let it out of its cage.
I thought it was behind me, I thought I turned the page.

Many of us have fought this beast.
Its so hard to contain, when its released.
It won't eat me, but it will kill me.
It will devour my life and everything I will be.

Destroying all my relationships to get us alone.
Then it will become me, it will be my clone.
It will control me, make me get on my hands and knees.
Late at night it will make me beg, just one more drink please.

Each day I go down just a little further, until I fall.
I will hit rock bottom, when I am enclosed by prison walls.
I shouldn't have let it out, when I heard its call.
Now I will spend my time, trying to put down the alcohol.
