The Artist

The outcome planned with such deft of hand

On canvas or carved all on his own

A poet at heart and a master of art

Whether painted or chiseled in stone

Though technique varies, he toils and tarries

Such inspiration will never cease

Through sunshine and showers he wittles for hours

To create another masterpiece

On multiple stages down through the ages

Their appreciation has just begun

By the freedom of will and standing so still

They admire the hard work that he's done

So enthralled and most fondly recalled

Though the gift of his craft is no more

The artist is gone, but his art will live on

For the whole of the world to adore

Wonderful tribute to artists who paint and or do sculpture! Who inspired this poem?

Hi Karen, I recently watched Lust For Life on TCM. It's about the life of Vincent Van Gogh starring Kirk Douglas. Like most artists, Van Gogh's paintings weren't fully appreciated till after his death. I hope that doesn't apply to poets too.
