The Answer

Take away assumption
And let's rule out the guess
Push aside the doctrine
And see what there is left
Strip away emotions
Sentiment and pride
Then maybe we can start to learn
Why Jesus really died
The Good Book simply states
That death is the wage
That sin will surely pay
On our final day
Christ was but a teacher
The best to ever be
If you read His spoken word
It's "That truth", that'll set you free
The world is mostly brainwashed
That path is broad and packed
More concerned about appearance
Instead of how to act
Religions teach obedience
and burdens man will guilt
then pummels him with rules
until his spirit starts to wilt
Love and only love
Is what we are, here to learn
To think like Jesus Christ
In all that we discern
THERE is one that can save you
Just look into a mirror
Then close your eyes a moment
To find him even nearer

If we look within ourselves to where God resides we will indeed find the answer. When we choose to carry our own burdens the weight is overwhelming. Religion tells us we must be good enough and we always feel inadequate. Jesus says "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest." I find much comfort in that.

Well stated, Jerry. Your poem is full of truth. Oh, how we wish everyone could believe. All a person need do is read the gospels to know that Jesus is who He said He is, God's Son, the giver of eternal love, life, and the light of the world.

I always like to read other peoples interpretation of the same thing. You did a great job here, and I like the form you employed. It's very different from mine, but that is what makes the contests interesting. Good Luck. ~jan

Interesting write. Unfortunately, some professed followers of Christ give Christianity a bad name! :( I guess I've done that at times, but that doesn't negate the fact that Jesus Christ was altogether lovely! :) Religion is bunk...Spirituality is life. The Bible speaks of those who have a form of godliness but deny its power. Thanks ever so much for the visit, Jerry. Great work here.
