The Animal Shelter

I know a place where people go To look around for a special pet They spend a few hours browsing At big and small cages In one room are many cages They are filled with many cats not happy cats; they're clawing to get out Waiting to be chosen going to a new home Behind a black door several dogs are kept Sad eyes staring out of crartes Barking and whining, desperate to get out It makes me want to cry People walk by, not really looming Animals bark and mew loudly Maybe hoping they'll noticed By someone who will reach out to them They are waiting and wondering when That special person will come along At night they dream of a yard Where they can play and run To be with a family that they'll be able to love So badly they want to be free of their crates Wanting to be in a loving home Cherished by a family prepared to share their world

Too many in shelters without homes. Heartbreaking to walk through. All my son's chihuahuas came from shelters. People shouldn't be allowed to breed animals for profit. Nicely written.

Hello Vince Suzadail Jr. so nice to meet you. yes there are too many animals in the shelters. I agree the breeders should not breed too many animals. When i am ready , I will adopt a cat from the animal shelter. Have a nice evening my friend. Thank you for your comment.

A "Pet" is not just for "Christmas" they say - But a unwanted "Christmas" pet is a "Gift" to others - You decribed the "Plight" of these unwanted pets so "Fiercely" - So well done "Darlene" - Blessings to you - Indiana x x x

Hello Charlie,my friend. I do love animals. No dogs or cats should be in cages where they can not move around. I once went looking for a dog, I saw a huge dog in a small cage, whinning to get out. It broke my heart.

Poor babies! So heart-breaking to see those poor innocent animals in cages but at least there they have a chance to get adopted. I think this "free verse" provokes so much empathy. Great job, Darlene!

Thank you Carole,it does bother me to see these sweet animals in cages. Also some are so small that they can not move around. So it made me decide to write about it. I hope you are having a nice day.
