The Angry Poem

How To Write An Angry Poem That Is More About Me Than It Is About You: 1. I want to tell you that I hate you, because you’ve made stars into more than just stars. I can no longer see constellations stringing together; instead they align in the shape of your name and it feels like a slap in the face. 2. I am not sure I am able to hate you, if only for the reason that you taught me how to laugh. 3. I hate laughing now. 4. Whether I meant to or didn’t, I have assigned songs and books and movies and poems to the memory of you. 5. I can no longer enjoy any of those things. 6. It is getting easier and easier to hate you every time someone asks me what happened, every time someone brings up your name, every time the stars decide to taunt me. 7. Hating you feels like a black hole that is moments away from closing in on itself, moments away from snapping out of existence. 8. I am afraid that if I begin to hate you, any piece of you that I have will snap out of existence. 9. If I stop saying I hate you, I will remember that I love you. 10. If I remember that I love you, I am sure the black hole will swallow me up without a moment’s notice, without any hesitation, without any regard for my own safety. 11. I think that’s the same way I fell in love with you. 12. I am so tired of falling in love with you. I feel like my hand is permanently glued to the ‘replay’ button, and I will never get out of this alive. 13. One day, I will stop hating you. I will stop loving you. 14. I don’t think that day is today.

I enjoy the way wafts back and forth between love and hate, reminding the reader there is a very thin line here.
