The Angel's Flight
The angel came to cheer the poor baby.
She sang soft, hushed, drawing near,
rocked the child so lovingly.
"Sleep Darling," she hummed -
a lullaby to keep the night mild,
on her gentle face, she smiled.
When the child slept she rose to roam,
to comfort other children far away,
to guard their dreams where shadows comb
Elsewhere, at the quiet night air
small ones pure fast sleep,
their cheeks unmasked by fear or care.
Then night's hush shattered by fire and pain
a bomb from hearts of fire killed them,
while mercy vanished in the rain.
There for the innocent children slain
unseen by indifferent eyes,
she stood, her heart bearing the pain.
