THE ANGEL THAT LIES AT MY FEET

Love given,
eventually brings sorrow,
to the giver,
I miss you whilst I'm living.

Little paws,
eyes that beg,
warm kisses,
not just a dog.

Moments held,
in my hand,
soft fur,
wet nose I felt.

Running free,
tongue hanging,
panting with joy,
running with me.

Playing ball,
leaves crunching,
pumpkins growing,
it's fall.

Winter looms,
warmed by the fire,
the first snowfall,
you'll go home soon.

My heart no longer beats,
tears from my pain,
stings my face,
heavens laying at my feet.
