The Alchemy of Our Night
The Alchemy of Our Night
We met inside a midnight torn apart by deepest darkness,
Our soles sunk in the mud of stars that fell down from the ether,
And your hand, a warm bolt of lightning caught in my palm of sky,
Led me toward a threshold-home written in a fleeting dream.
In the cold room, our shadow burned like a candle already snuffed,
And your eyes, two ailing suns, asked me in silence: will you stay?
Strangers joined beneath night's skin, alone, yet so close, so near,
We melted into one, like thick smoke fusing with an old room's air.
We traded memories like a swarm of moths burned down by time,
She, a love that never once was living — I, a shadow never loved,
Our words fell down like leaves caught in the wind of wandering minds,
And all we'd ever been together now seemed a half-told mystic tale.
With a painful, aching pleasure, we clung like two lost children in fear,
Our bodies, two burnt branches grown up from a frozen earth,
A whirlpool of galaxies spun magic underneath our eyelids,
And the whole night became a temple where a lifetime was consumed.
We wept with tears of liquid mercury, dissolving the border between stars,
And we loved with a desperation that defied both time and being forgotten,
A whole lifetime burned away inside one single moment of silence,
Leaving behind us only ashes — and a rising toward the sky.
