The Alabaster Jar
The Alabaster Jar
Being
Manifested by all the universe
Accepting the gift of love
Tiny steps, holding a blue alabaster jar
with promises, love, peace, joy, and togetherness.
Spring
The cold, dark winters give way to spring.
Sunny, warm days, the chirping of birds
New life, new friendships
Laughter, happiness, and bonding
The alabaster jar still held everything—precious moments yet to unfold.
Like a lamb frolicking in the gentle breeze
Fields bursting with colors abound.
Not a care in the world
She sprang from hill to hill, shore to shore.
Autumn
It seemed overnight that cracks began to show.
The jar seemed to fade, bare and empty.
The stillness of life is ebbing away.
Just the swooshing of leaves
Gently kissing the earth, their end had come.
Holding the jar up to the light
A few cracks began to show.
A change, a heartache, lovers left behind, relationships lost in transit...
Summer
The magic of the sun heals all wounds.
It's time for merriment, taking in the bounty of the sun.
Promises of laughter and promises of pleasure fill the air.
Yet she knows this won't last long.
Somewhere lurking in the shadows- the abominable awaits.
Summer, oh summer... Won't you stay a while longer?
In the bright summer light, the jar is now faded, cracked, and almost gone.
Winter
The stiffness of the cold, the rain banging on the panes
Unable to move, broken beyond repair.
Hands moving through the ashes, burned by the cinders
Is there life after brokenness? Is there life after soul- death?
The branches from the forest creep through the cracks.
Holding her down with their harsh, raspy breath.
‘Will you be brave, little one? ‘I’ve got you’ She whispers
Reaching for the blue alabaster jar, she holds it up.
Allowing the tiny beams of light to push through.
From the ashes comes new life—broken but not dead.
Shattered but whole, she begins to fill her jar.
With a tsunami of tears.
She will rise; she will rise, and she will live.
